Purpose

To publish original research and observations on fungi from North America, including taxonomy, ecology, biogeography, and conservation.
To provide an open-access, free-to-publish, respected outlet for amateur and professional mycologists alike, with peer-reviewed standards and editorial support for non-affiliated authors (lower barriers, but not standards).
To encourage the documentation and preservation of regional fungal biodiversity, particularly in under-collected or ecologically threatened habitats.
To honor the legacy of William Alphonso Murrill by supporting a mycological community rooted in curiosity, careful observation, and regional expertise.

About Murrillia

Murrillia: Southeastern Journal of Amateur Mycology is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing original research and observations on fungi with an emphasis on North America. We focus on studies in taxonomy, ecology, biogeography, and conservation, with an emphasis on under-documented and ecologically sensitive habitats.

Established in honor of William Alphonso Murrill (1869–1957)—renowned mycologist, pioneering field explorer, and founding editor of Mycologia—Murrillia celebrates his legacy by supporting a scholarly forum for both amateur and professional mycologists. We offer a welcoming and respected platform for independent researchers, community-scientists, and academic contributors alike.

Our editorial mission is to uphold rigorous scientific standards while providing guidance and support for non-affiliated authors. We aim to foster collaboration across disciplines and levels of experience, encourage the documentation and conservation of regional fungal biodiversity, and elevate voices rooted in curiosity, careful observation, and a shared dedication to mycology.
